The Interpol issued a Red Corner notice on Thursday against Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar, the Canada-based mobster who claimed responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer-politician Sidhu Moosewala. The release of RCN paves the way for the extradition of Brar – the prime suspect in Moosewala’s murder, along with imprisoned mobster Lawrence Bishnoi who was admitted to his gang’s involvement.
Brar, an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, had claimed responsibility for the May 29 murder of Sidhu Moosewala, calling it revenge for the murder of Vicky Middukhera, leader of Youth Akali Dal.
Earlier today, India’s Interpol liaison agency CBI released a statement today saying that the Punjab police did not seek an RCN against Goldy Brar until May 30, a day after the murder.
The CBI statement came as a shock to the Punjab police, who on Wednesday claimed they filed a Red Corner Notice against mobster Brar nearly 10 days before Moosewala’s murder on May 29.
The CBI said a notice was received from the Bureau of Investigation, Punjab Police via an email on May 30 at 12:25 PM with a letter dated May 19 attached requesting the issuance of a Red Notice against Brar in two FIRs registered by Punjab Police – FIR No 409 of November 12, 2020 and FIR No. 44 of February 18, 2021 – at the City Police Station, Faridkot.
Twenty-seven-year-old singing sensation Moosewala, who had fought the recent Punjab parliamentary election on a congressional ticket, was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Punjab’s Mansa district on May 29, a day after the state government cut its security coverage. More than 30 empty shell casings of bullets were found near his SUV in which he was killed.
Soon after, Brar posted a video message on social media claiming responsibility for the murder, after which Punjab police said the killing was the result of gang rivalry.
Earlier this week, during questioning by the Delhi Police Special Cell, Bishnoi admitted that his gang was involved in the murder, after which police said the imprisoned mobster was the mastermind behind the attack.
A spokesman for the Punjab Police had previously said that the state police had left no stone unturned for the extradition of mobster Goldy Brar.
Brar, a resident of Sri Muktsar Sahib, had gone to Canada on a student visa in 2017 and he is an active member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
