IPL 2023 Qualifier 1: Chepauk Champions! Chennai Super Kings reach final with 15-run victory over Gujarat Titans | Match report

Chennai Super Kings are on their way to the IPL 2023 final and they are the first team in this season to do so! Chennai defeated Gujarat by 15 runs in a match which can be called an easy win for the host team. Though, Gujarat fought in the first innings, but later their batsmen kept falling like dominoes!

To begin with Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya won the coin toss and opted to bowl. Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway were the lead-off hitters for CSK, and Rituraj really proved his mettle, scoring an excellent 60 off 44 balls when the others failed to make any substantial contribution.

Gaikwad appeared to be slowing down after surpassing his Conway with whom he shared another half-century. He fell trying to force the pace, on a fly by David Miller to Mohit Sharma. Conway didn’t seem his usual self and seemed to struggle through his timing throughout his innings. All in all, CSK did quite well reaching 172 runs on the loss of 7 wickets on a slow roll in Qualifying 1.

Gujarat had a winning target of 173 runs, which initially seemed possible, but slowly seemed like a dream for the defending champions. CSK’s left arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja did the star for the Super Kings with a brilliant spell where he choked the opponent’s batters. GT barely had a grip on the race during the race. Matheesha Pathirana, Maheesh Theekshana and Deepal Chahar also finished with two wickets each. Gujarat’s greatest weapon, Shubham Gill fell 42 off 38 balls, and GTs ended up making 157 runs with the loss of 10 wickets!
