Maharashtra crisis: Supreme court clears deck for floor test on Thursday, fate of Uddhav Thackeray hangs in balance

The Supreme Court on Wednesday cleared the floor for the floor test in the Maharashtra assembly on Thursday, refusing to interfere with the governor at the Uddhav Thackeray-led MVA government to prove majority in the House.

The supreme court’s decision came after a lengthy hearing on a plea by Shiv Sena chief Whip Sunil Prabhu, in which he challenged the Maharashtra governor’s appointment to CM Uddhav to face a confidence vote. The highest court had noted earlier during the hearing that the floor of the House of Representatives was the only way to resolve these democracy issues.
