Nobody needs one 8K TV in 2022. The vast majority of us don’t even watch 4K-resolution content all the time unless you pay for upgraded streaming (and even then the bit rate is poor compared to an HD Blu-ray disc). Most of the high-quality 8K content online is just demo videos.
The reason you buy a TV like the Samsung QN900B – the company’s flagship 8K LED TV for 2022 – is to absolutely positive that your neighbor won’t have something nicer in his living room. After a few weeks with it set up in mine, I’m pretty sure you won’t find a better screen in your area, no matter how many gates and golden toilets there are.
You’ll have a hard time pushing the TV as hard as you can with the current content available, but that’s not really the point. It’s so overwhelmed that it doesn’t matter what you feed it. The QN900B has beautiful colors, excellent processing and a sleek design. If you’re tired of keeping up with the Joneses and want to be Indiana, this is the model to buy.
The first thing I like about the QN900B is the central pedestal mount. I’ve begged more TV makers to use this design, and I’m glad to see Samsung using it here. The bezels around the TV are thin and the overall design feels robust and was easy to assemble.
A small One Connect box sits on the back of the bracket and supplies the TV with power and HDMI signal, but allows you to mount it flat on the wall without annoying multi-cables – a nice touch. You also get Samsung’s sleek solar-powered remote, so you’ll never have to fumble through a drawer for AAA batteries again.
The TV has perforated edges on the outside, presumably to dissipate heat, and they give a very professional look that helps set it apart from more affordable models – something the buyer of this TV will probably want, for all the extra money.
The main reason to buy a TV with so many pixels is the processing. 8K TVs can upscale and manipulate any image you feed them to almost window-like clarity. There were several times when watching this quantum dot, mini LED compatible TV, that I felt like I could literally poke my head through the screen and into the scene beyond.
Several neural processors and advanced display technology work together in the QN900B, delivering insane color accuracy, stunning highlights and extremely smooth action when watching sports.
I was watching my usual weekend Formula 1 race with friends on this thing, and the group noticed how gorgeous the Ferrari red and Mercedes silver looked as they flew through Belgium. Green-field sports also look great, with the processing responding to what you’re watching and enabling crystal-clear action.
