The Union’s Education Minister, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, has inaugurated the 2022 National Yoga Olympiad and Quiz Competition as the main guest. The National Yoga Olympiad is jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the National Council for Educational Research and Training, which is scheduled to take place on June 18-20, 2022. Minister of State for Education Shri Subhas Sarkar was also present on the occasion.
In 2022, approximately 600 students from 26 states/UTs and multipurpose demonstration schools of regional educational institutions will participate in the National Yoga Olympiad.
The minister stressed that in order to encourage healthier choices and bring people even closer together, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has chosen this year’s theme as Yoga For Humanity.
He added that yoga is India’s gift to the world and it has become hugely popular worldwide since the UN General Assembly passed Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s proposal to celebrate June 21 as International Day of Yoga.
The Minister emphasized that NEP 2020 places particular emphasis on the physical and emotional well-being of both students and teachers. Sports-integrated learning will instill in the sportsman’s mind and help students adopt fitness as a lifelong attitude, he added.
He further suggested that NCERT incorporate the ancient wisdom of yoga into our curriculum. The NCERT started the National Yoga Olympiad in 2016.
